THE LINCOLN COUNTY STORY

Billy the Kid made his most famous escape from the Lincoln County Courthouse in April 1881, just down US-380 from Capitan. An escape room inspired by that story is a fun, hands-on way to dive into the Lincoln County War, and it pairs perfectly with a visit to the real courthouse in Lincoln.

A PERFECT DAY TRIP FROM CAPITAN

The Lincoln Historic Site is about a 20-minute drive east of the motel on the Billy the Kid Scenic Byway. Walk the preserved adobe buildings, the old courthouse and original storefronts where the Lincoln County War played out, then explore the high-desert landscape around the Rio Bonito.
